- Listing of contents of THE DISK issue 2.
-
-
- POWER-PACKER2.3b - This is version 2.3b of the widely used data and program
- cruncher Power-Packer. If you are ever short of space on your disks,
- Power-Packer will crunch a typical file down to just over half it`s
- original size.
-
- PPMORE - This program can be used to de-crunch and display ASCII text files
- which have been crunched using Power-Packer.
-
- PPSHOW - This program can be used to de-crunch and display IFF picture files
- which have been crunched using Power-Packer.
-
- KILLDAVIRUSIII - KDVIII stays alert on your Workbench disk checking system
- memory every 30 seconds, file viruses and bootblocks. Whenever a disk is
- inserted in any drive, KDVIII gets to work and checks the disk as mentioned
- above.
-
- SCREENX - Quite a useful program that lets you save the Workbench screen
- as an IFF picture to edit in DPaint. Other options are also available.
-
- SUPERECHO - Do you own a sound sampler? I hope so because you are going to
- have a bit of fun here. SuperEcho lets you plug a microphone into any
- sound sampler and create LIVE vocal effects!. I managed to change the
- tone of my voice to sound EXACTLY like ED209 (Robocop)!. You can also
- create s-s-stutters, echos, in fact anything.
-
- COSMO(GAME) - Remember classics like Asteroids? Here is that simple
- Asteroids game brought to your Amiga.
-
- BOOTINTRO - Have seen those messages which appear on demos as soon you insert
- the disk? Well with BootIntro you can easily write you own messages on your
- disks. (This is not the same program which appears on Amiga Format disks!).
-
- PURITY - Are you fed up with having to load preferences every time you want
- to change the printer settings?. Here`s a wonderful utility which opens a
- small window on the Workbench screen allowing you to alter the main printer
- settings instantly at the click of the mouse.
-
- TIMESET - Here is another utility to avoid using preferences. TimeSet
- enables you to quickly set the time of the system clock - very useful for
- owners who`s clock is not battery backed as it is much quicker to use
- TimeSet.
-
- MUSIC - BEING BORING - This tune was a chart hit by The Pet Shop Boys
- recently and has now been written on the Amiga by Daniel Rigby, using
- MED (a SoundTracker clone). I may be including MED on THE DISK in the near
- future.
-
- ICONMAKER - Create ANY Workbench icon of ANY size using IconMaker. Simply
- load up Deluxe Paint II in medium res 4 colours and start drawing!. I use
- this program to create icons for THE DISK. IconMaker is user friendly and
- gives pleasing results.
-
- POIPOI - Demo fans will love this one!. Four ACID type creatures (you know
- the round yellow smiling ones) appear on the screen. They all sit on four
- small platforms which start to move up and down, tossing the PoiPoi`s in the
- air in time to the music from each of the Amigas four channels. I believe
- that this was a great hit at some computer fair and l can see why!.
-
- ST-RIPPER - You might like to know that this has nothing to do with the
- AtariST, in fact, ST ripper is a neat little program which searches through
- memory looking for Soundtracker songs after you have reset your Amiga.
- The program is easy to use and allows you to save any found music to disk.
-
- TEXTRA - Need a text editor to replace ED?. Well here is Textra, and it
- certainly beats ED. Why? because l am typing this file on it right now!.
- Textra uses pull-down menus with cut & paste and search & replace facilities.
-
- SCREENHACKS - Another five of those amusing programs. I nearly put nine
- hacks on this months disk but they all took too much space so you will find
- the rest next month. As usual, l will let you find out what they all do,
- but l suggest that you run them last as some are unstopable!.
-
- VECTACHECK - Find those viruses in memory when you boot up!. Call VectaCheck
- from your startup-sequence as l have done this month.
-
- FORTUNE - Another program for your startup-sequence, this one from Amiga
- computing. As you will have seen whilst booting up this issue, fortune
- displays a random `thought for the day` message.
-
- P.D. LIBRARY - No, not a utility but a list of all my disks which you can
- pick up for a quid a piece.
